Nathalie Brunet (13 years with Spectrum) – Chair
Nathalie (she/her) is a retired junior high science teacher, who also had the privilege of being the openly queer teacher-facilitator to the school’s “LGBTQ-munity” group. Besides singing in Spectrum, she is also a potter, a D&D player, a recorder player, and a hiker and gardener with an interest in ecology. She loves Spectrum as an opportunity to be in multi-generational queer community – and on top of that you get to sing, too!!!
Jenn Rose (3 years with Spectrum) – Deputy Chair
Jenn (they/them) has been singing with Spectrum for 3 years, and recently joined the Board of Directors as Deputy Chair. Jenn works with YWCA St. John’s as a Program Coordinator, providing employment supports and systems navigation for women and gender-diverse newcomers to Canada. Their academic background is a Bachelor of Arts in Gender Studies with a minor in Psychology from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador (MUNL). Since 2019, Jenn has been a 2SLGBTQIA+ Mentor for queer youth and Leadership Team Member with Camp Eclipse NL. They also served as a Director-at-Large on the Board of Directors with ArtForce NL for 5 years, and on the Leadership Team with Equal Voice NL since 2021. Jenn is a visual artist, community builder, silly goose, and grateful to be working alongside an incredible team with Spectrum Queer Choir.
Jill Blackwood (14 years with Spectrum) – Treasurer
Jill (she/her) has been a member of Spectrum Queer Choir since its inaugural year. The opportunity to sing with chosen family touches her heart deeply. Jill spends her retirement time walking, hanging with friends, and encouraging people to save a life by donating blood. She has held the position of treasurer since the choir incorporated.
Nathan Hynes (13 years with Spectrum) – Secretary
Nathan (he/they) has been a member of Spectrum since joining in 2012, and has enjoyed singing alongside his community every step of the way. After a two-year hiatus finishing his Master of Information degree at Dalhousie University, Nathan has returned to the province eager to help build his community further. He is currently working as a librarian in St. John’s public libraries. Nathan enjoys video games and crafting in his spare time.
Kate McClintock (2 years with Spectrum) – Member at Large
Kate (she/her) is a friend and ally to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and loves singing in Spectrum’s Alto section. Having relocated to St. John’s in 2023, she is grateful to Spectrum for providing a warm, inclusive environment to make new friends and learn beautiful music. Outside of choir, Kate works in an academic library, creates embroidery hoop art, plays her trumpet, and enjoys exploring Newfoundland’s epic scenery.
Laura Sinclair (3 years with Spectrum) – Member at Large
Laura (she/her) has been a member in Spectrum since 2022. Her professional background is in Geographic Information Systems and Geology. Singing brings Laura a lot of joy and she has been involved in choirs or performing for most of her life. Laura’s favourite thing about Spectrum is the feeling of community singing together as a group. Her goal as a board member is to see Spectrum flourish and continue being a welcoming, uplifting place for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in our city.
Julie Vogt (3 years with Spectrum) – Member at Large
Recently retired from a 35-year career as a CEO, CPA, and Executive Director (most recently for the NL Folk Arts Society), Julie (she/her) now spends her time singing with Spectrum, relaxing, and knitting. She lives in downtown St. John’s with her husband, Ian, and three cats.
Amanda Klein (3 years with Spectrum) – Member at Large
Amanda (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist and career development coordinator, who has made St. John’s her home since 2019. Amanda has been a member of Spectrum Queer Choir since 2022, outside of choir she helps to facilitate the St. John’s Queer Book Club, is a local tarot reader, and is working on her Roller Derby, Burlesque and sword fighting skills.
